Cornerstones of the Morning: Meditation and Gratitude

I wish I could say I never miss a day in my morning routine. It could be said but it would be a lie…lol

I can definitely tell a difference in the days that I am able to follow through on these two practices.

  1. Morning Meditation
  2. Daily Gratitude

Personally, being able to meditate for 10 minutes in the morning before my day begins is a huge way to get centered and give me the best possible way to start a day. I constantly struggle with my mind racing and feeling anxiety as soon as I wake up. Lots of times, I have a feeling of dread before I even get out of the bed. That’s a terrible way to start a day. For me, being able to practice mindfulness and realize what is happening and be in the moment is a big difference maker. Knowing your mind is racing has been my first step to stopping my mind from racing.

I use the Calm app for my morning meditations. Tamara Levitt is a blessing we don’t deserve. Honestly, the app is great and I can’t recommend it enough. Music and background sounds to help you sleep, guided meditations and other great content.

My other morning ritual is my daily gratitude post. What am I thankful for when I start my day. It’s a great jumping off point for me to start my day. What is great in my life instead of focusing on racing thoughts that are amping up my anxiety.

These are the two cornerstones of my morning routine. As I go along my journey, I’m sure this list will expand but these are two that will definitely help keep me centered.

About Me

First and foremost, I’m a husband and father of 4. My hobbies include Magic: the Gathering, video games and like a lot of other “old guys” I enjoy smoking meat!
Mental health is an important topic to me, especially in men. CleansingMeditation is as much for me as for anyone else. It’s a resource that I look back on for guidance and support when I’m coping with everyday life.
