Manifesting: Strangest Secret: You are what you think about

I want to start off by stating that this I just learned about the concept of manifesting a few months ago. The concept is fairly old I believe. “If you focus and obsess on something, you can make it happen.” I remember when “The Secret” became a big deal back in the early 2000’s. The concept popped back in my life a few months ago when my wife came home and asked the family to watch a video by Earl Nightingale. The video challenged the viewer to critically think about why they do what they do. Why do you get up and go to a job you do not love everyday? Are you a success if you make a decent wage but do not love your life? Why do you do what the next person is doing, just because you think you are suppose to follow suit?

I had been contemplating these things for a while so for me the video was a real wake up call. I’ve been struggling to answer those questions for a while. The video talked about goal setting and the concept of the “strangest secret”. I struggled to even think of obtainable and logical goals. What do I really want out of life? For me personally, making more money is not what I am after. My bank account has never been something I was ever proud of. I’m much more driven by not being stressed about bills and having enough in the bank to handle the curves that life throws at us. As someone who is obese and not in shape, I want to be healthier. I am working on losing weight but the process is slow but 100% worth it. Unfortunately, I’ve never been really active with my kids but it’s never to late. They are 11 and 14 and I am more active with them lately but there’s always room for improvement. As far as a job goes, I actually love the company I work for but I think I am “over” my current job. I think I either need a change of position or to maybe switch it up for a while. That is part of the reason for creating cleansingmeditation.com – I was looking for side projects to work on to fill a void and a blog kept coming up as an idea.

In the Nightingale video, he brings up the concept of the “Strangest Secret”, the idea that what we think about is what we become. Call it what you will but “The Secret”, the Strangest Secret or manifesting are all basically the same concept in my mind; figure out your goal and then become obsessed over it. Go make it happen. It sounds simple enough to me but doing this in day to day life can be a challenge. Why? Its because we spend our entire lives becoming who we are. I didn’t get to where I am over the course of a day or a long weekend. The neuroses, the traumas, the experiences that have forged us do not go away or become less informative because we decide to manifest something.

The Hard Part

The real hurdle in the process is breaking bad habits and forging new trains of thought to become the person we want to be instead of falling into the same pitfalls and traps we have set for ourselves for years. I absolutely realize that I’m just learning to walk in my mental health journey. It came as a shock to me that my own mind was really not in my corner when it comes to being successful. That nagging voice in the back of our head that tempers expectations, the same one that reminds of us past failures, the one that gets us sidetracked when we are trying to stay on topic. That’s the definition of us being our own worst enemies. If we can tame the chatter in our own heads, that’s the way we forge new habits and begin to make actual changes.

Setting Goals

What do we want? I mean, what are we actually after? Money? What kind of changes in our lives do we want the money for? Better house? Better car? More financial security? Be in better shape? Why? To feel better about ourselves? To ensure longevity? Do we just want to be happy? What does happiness look like for each of us? These are the questions I mull over in my head when I try to work on goal setting. I mentioned my weight earlier, that’s a big one for me. Financially, I would just like enough to pay my bills and have enough in the bank to be prepared for an emergency. Goal setting seems like it would the easy part of the process but I find it extremely difficult to do because I want to make sure my motivations are solid. Solid goals lead to solid results. No judgement on those goals but if your motivations are in the right place then you are working from a solid beginning.

Finisher

To be honest, this is were I’m finishing up because this is where I am in the process. I’m searching for what I want beyond losing weight and having enough money to live comfortably. What’s my passion? I mentioned before. That’s why I have started the blog. It’s going to be a tool to help me discover my passion. Wish me luck!
